Common Knapweed is a widespread perennial wildflower found in grassland, meadows and roadside verges across much of the UK.
Identification
The purple flower head is made up of many small florets packed together into a single flower head.
Below the florets are overlapping bracts, which are useful when identifying knapweeds.
Leaves
The leaves are arranged alternately along the stem.
Habitat
Common Knapweed is often found in:
- meadows
- unimproved grassland
- roadside verges
- field margins
Flowering period
It usually flowers from June to September.
